Lot description:

PHRYGIA. Cotiaeum. Galba, 68-69. Assarion (Orichalcum, 20 mm, 4.16 g, 1 h), Ti. Klaudios Papylos, magistrate. ΓΑΛBAN AYTOKPATOPA KOTIAEIΣ Laureate head of Galba to right. Rev. ΕΠI T[I KΛA] ΠAΠYΛOY Zeus (?) standing front, head to left, extending his right hand. RPC I -, but cf. RPC II 1408 (for Vespasian). Unpublished and unique. A very attractive issue with a bold portrait. The reverse struck slightly off center and a bit rough, otherwise, good very fine.

This piece fills an important gap in the coinage of Galba at Cotiaeum, as it confirms the existence of coins signed by Ti. Klaudios Papylos, who is now the fourth magistrate to sign coins for both Galba and Vespasian in 69 (RPC lists four for Vespasian, but just three for Galba).

Estimate: 350 CHF
